2021 Mangere East Cultural Festival - March
The Mangere East Cultural Festival is a community celebration that has been held annually in the Mangere East Village since 2008.
The event is held during the week of Race Relations Day (in March) and celebrates our community's rich diversity, with the sharing of cultures through performance, arts and crafts, foods, activities and education. However, this year due to covid-19 the even has had to be postponed until June. We are proud to live at the gateway to Aotearoa in our 'community of communities' and we celebrate the many different ethnic groups and communities that make Mangere East such a vibrant and special place. In 2020 we are doing it again and we encourage community groups, performers, food vendors, artists, and anyone that wants to participate to get in touch and get involved. #LoveMangereEast For any information regarding the event, contact Ola on 09 275 6161 or email info@mangereeast.org.nz |

2020, Mangere East Cultural Festival
The Mangere East Cultural Festival was another awesome event held in the Mangere East Village. Rain and stormy weather didn't dampen celebrations, with the Mangere East Library offering a fitting venue for our community to perform.
Over 1000 people participated in the celebrations with over 10 performance groups representing over 20 different cultures through exciting performance, dance and song.
Highlights of the day included a
Other awesome cultural performances included the Indian, Samoan, Tongan, Kapa Haka groups from Mangere East Primary School, a standing ovation-performance from the Kings College Kapa Haka group (and a whole lot more!), we were spoilt for entertainment and our community pride enhanced further with the learning, knowledge and understandings of our rich diversity.
Our community enjoyed delicious foods and drinks from Tāniwha Burgers and Burmese delicacies to sweet Ethiopian coffee, Kiwiana Cupcakes, South African Bunny Chow and freshly unearthed Hāngi.
The Korowai and Tāniko classes (from the Mangere East Community Centre) shared their crafts and skills with the crowd, the Mangere East Library helped spark the kids hunger to learn more about their own, and other cultures with fun, interactive activities. Mangere East Zumba got the crowd up and moving.
Good Seed Trust, NZMA and Work Safe also engaged with the younger population offering FREE and FUN arts and crafts activities, face-painting and bouncy-castles. Our waste management team were out in force too and we managed to reduce over 60% of land-fill waste!
An exciting, engaging, educational and enjoyable day in the Mangere East Village.
Special Thanks to the Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board, Ohomairangi Trust, Mangere East Library, Mangere East Business Association,, Mangere Mangere Maori Wardens Association, Manukau City Association Football Club, Mangere College, MEFSC Mangere East Family Service Centre and the awesome Mangere East Community!
